Concrete Patios in Chicago Ridge, Shaped for Outdoor Living
A patio proportioned for the way you entertain, sloped gently toward the garden and finished in a texture that suits your home.
Designing an Outdoor Room
The finest patios feel like rooms without walls. They are proportioned for the furniture that lives on them, shaped to suit the garden around them and finished in a surface that feels at home beside the house. We begin the design by asking how you want to spend time outside: long dinners at a table for six, a pair of lounge chairs in the afternoon sun, a grill tucked to one side, a fire pit for cool evenings. With those pieces in mind, we outline the shape on the lawn so you can walk through it and sense the scale before anything is dug. Squares and rectangles feel crisp and architectural; gentle curves soften the edges and blend into plantings. Equally important is how the patio handles water. A slab beside the house needs a quiet, steady slope away from the foundation so summer storms drain into the yard rather than toward the door or the basement. With the outline and pitch agreed, turf and soft earth are lifted away, crushed stone is tamped into a firm bed and the forms are set. Most patios are poured about four inches thick with reinforcement inside. A broom finish offers a simple, slip-resistant surface, while stamped and colored concrete brings the texture of natural stone. Joints are planned to complement the shape, the slab is cured with care and the garden edges are restored when we finish.

A reinforced slab
About four inches of concrete with steel inside.

From Sketch to Summer Evenings
Shape and price
We outline the patio, set the slope and provide a written price for size, thickness, stone bed, finish and removal.
Prepare the ground
The lawn is cut away, crushed stone is rolled firm one layer after another, and the forms carry the pitch.
Pour, finish and restore
Concrete goes in, receives its texture or pattern and its joints, cures under cover, and the planting edges are restored.
